Camping and Overlanding using the sublime combination of 4WD’s and rooftop tents is gaining popularity worldwide.
Utemaster is actively working with Rooftop tent manufacturers to make it as easy as possible for you to join the Rooftop tent adventure with your ute or 4WD.
Because the Load-Lid can handle a 200kg load capacity it makes the perfect platform to mount your rooftop tent to through the use of purpose designed roof rack mounting systems. Because of this high strength rating, the Utemaster Load-Lid can provide a 4WD Ute hard lid solution that can’t be reliably achieved by traditional Ute hard lids or Ute Roller Covers.
Please Note: Roof Top Tents weigh between 60-80kg so it can be difficult to lift the Load-Lid with a tent on top. If you want to access the wellside while the lid is closed, we recommend you remove the locking plate under the Load-Lid™ handle.
Having gear on top of the vehicle roof can increase drag and negatively influence fuel economy. The wellside area sits within a streamlined part of the vehicle and has less effect on the drag of the vehicle, mounting the roof top tent to this area will still keep you up off the ground, but won’t slow you down.
Roof top tents are heavy and often have a deadweight of between 40 – 80 KG, often the only way to get them onto the top of the Ute or 4WD is to use a forklift.
Mounting to the Ute wellside area means it is a comfortable lift for 1-2 people and set up is that much easier because you can walk around the Ute to set it up instead of climbing onto the roof.
All that is needed is our Load lid crossbar mounts and you will be set to go, you can fit crossbars to Utemaster side rails or directly to the lid itself.
The Cantilever Roof Rack for the Utemaster Centurion Canopy is ideal for mounting Roof Top Tents because of its 200kg load-carrying capacity. It also keeps your gear safe and secure - making it the ideal setup for your next 4x4 canopy adventure!

Overland camping trips often feature multiple river crossings & 4WD tracks so the rooftop tent + hard lid combo means you can easily pack up your gear and get to all the great locations your overlanding adventure takes you to.
Q.) Can I mount my Roof Top Tent to a Utemaster Centurion Canopy Canopy?
A.) Yes, we have a bracket that is designed to work with the Centurion Canopy with Cantilever Roof Rack and the Bushbuck Armourdillo Tent, click here to find out more.
Q.) Can I lift the Load-Lid with a rooftop tent on the lid?
A.) The lid will still open providing the tent doesn't collide with the rear window. However, the gas stays that come standard with the lid will only slightly assist with lifting. They will not take the full weight of the load meaning extra effort will be required to get it open nd the lid will not remain open by itself.
Q.) I'm concerned about load ratings, roof racks and cross bars are only rated for 75KG. How is this going to support my roof top tent?
A.) Load ratings for roof rack systems are calculated based on dynamic or moving loads. This is important for transporting your gear, but when you are parked up these racks can take a much higher static load. To give you an idea, to get 75KG load rating, a roof rack has to withstand up to 4 times its load rating on a test rig that pulls on two angles to simulate a sheet of plywood catching the wind and trying to pull off.
